Where We’ve Been

Our story began in 1896, when S.W. Mercer founded Bankers Advertising Company in Iowa City. With roots in newspaper publishing, Mercer transitioned to promotional advertising— selling calendars and print products at a time when branding was just beginning to take shape.

Originally offering bank supplies alongside promotional items (hence the name “Bankers”), the company adapted over time, phasing out financial supplies during the Great Depression and doubling down on branded merchandise.

Today, we remain one of the oldest and most respected promotional firms in the country—one of the few still manufacturing many of the products we sell. Our fourth and fifth-generation leadership continues to build on our founder’s vision, proudly serving clients who have trusted us decades.
